15 Super Brilliant Indian Movies That Have Gone For Oscar Submissions


No doubt there are some Brilliant Indian Movies that can make an impact in the World. The race for one of the largest movie awards for India started with Mehboob Khan’s epic drama, Mother India in the year 1957, India have submitted a number of movies for Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. This awesome movie was actually nominated for the award and since then, Indians are trying to win the Award. Only three of these Brilliant Indian Movies got nominated under the Best Foreign Language Film category namely Mother India (1957), Salaam Bombay! (1988), and Lagaan (2001).

We present you the Super Brilliant Indian Movies that went for making it large for India.

1. Mother India

 

This was India’s first film for the Award. Directed by Mehboob Khan in the year 1957, starring Nargis, Sunil Dutt, Rajendra Kumar, and Raaj Kumar this movie was nominated in the 30th Oscar Ceremony.



2. Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam

 

This film was produced by Guru Dutt and directed by Abrar Alvi in the year 1962. It is based on a Bengali novel. The movie gained huge crowd and was submitted by India for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 35th Oscar Ceremony.


3. The Guide

 

Directed by Vijay Anand in 1965, Guide is a romantic drama film starring Dev Anand and Waheeda Rehman. This was a blockbuster upon release and was submitted by India for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 38th Oscar Ceremony.


4. The Last Letter

 

The writer and the director of this 1966 movie is Chetan Anand. Starring Rajesh Khanna and Indrani Mukherjee, this was submitted by India for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 40th Oscar Ceremony



5. Manthan

 

It’s a 1976 Hindi movie based upon pioneering the Milk cooperative movement. This awesome movie on white revolution was hence submitted by India for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 50th Oscar Ceremony.



6. Saaransh 

 

Starring Anupam kher, Rohini Hattangadi and Soni Razdan, this film was directed by Mahesh bhatt in the year 1984. It was chosen to be India’s official entry to the Oscars and where it wasn’t nominated. This film was submitted by India for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 57th Oscar Ceremony.



7. Salaam Bombay!

 

This is one of the only three lucky Indian movies to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Directed by Mira Nair and screen-written by Sooni Taraporevala. This featured in the 61st Oscar Ceremony.



8. Parinda

 

Featured in the 62nd Oscar Ceremony, this is 1989 Indian crime drama film directed and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra Starring Nana Patekar, Jackie Shroff, Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit.



9. Bandit Queen

 

This is 1994 Indian biographical film based on the life of Phoolan Devi. Starring Seema Biswas as the title character and directed by Shekhar Kapur this was produced by Bobby Bedi’s Kaleidoscope Entertainment. However, this movie featured in 67th Oscar Ceremony.



10. Earth 

 

It’s based upon Bapsi Sidhwa’s novel, Cracking India and was released in 1998. Directed by Deepa Mehta this movie featured in 72nd Oscar Ceremony.



11. Lagaan

 

Released in the year 2001 and considered to be one of the finest Indian movies, this was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in Oscar’s 74th Ceremony. This film stars Aamir Khan, Gracy Singh, Rachel Shelley and many more.



12. Hey Ram

 

Made in Tamil and Hindi this is a crime based movie. It was written, directed and produced by Kamal Haasan and also starred as a protagonist in the film. The movie released in the year 2000. This featured in 73rd Oscar ceremony.



13. Taare Zameen Par

 

Titled ‘Like Stars on Earth’ for Disney’s international DVD, this educational drama released in the year 2007. Produced and directed by Aamir khan and he also played the role of a teacher and a social worker in the movie. This however featured in the 81st Oscar Ceremony.



14. Barfi! 

 

Starring Ranbir kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D’Cruz as the lead characters, this movie released in the year 2012. Directed by Anurag basu, this featured in the 85th Oscar ceremony.



15. Court 

 

It is a 2014 Indian courtroom drama film written and directed by débutante director Chaitanya Tamhane. It features a cast of newcomers and the movie examines the Indian legal system through the trials at a Sessions Court in Mumbai. This was however featured in 88th Oscar
ceremony.
